From Myself:
I’ve learned what my strengths are for a company. I have the ability of wanting things to be done as quickly as possible, but correctly as well. When it comes to cutting fruit or cleaning them, I’ll try to do it as fast as possible, but never stopping until the end. Also, when I’m cutting strawberries or pineapples, I won’t stop until I’m done, its in my nature. The reason behind why I don’t like to spend too much time on something so simple, is because I feel that I can be doing something much more productive, and that cutting fruit, or even washing them should be a very easy job. Additionally, I’ve learned about myself that if I’m motivated to work on something that I like, I’ll do it at my best.
Continuously, I learned about myself that brainstorming out loud with other people is extremely helpful for new ideas. In other words, it is called focus group. By doing this I am able to make up supporting ideas that lead to projects, and also, try to improve on ideas that people suggest. It simply fills the environment with good, to great ideas.
As a Company/Team: Working for a in-school company, for me, is something completely new - and probably for everyone as well. Handling stress and making sure everything is working is up to everyone; not only the CEO’s. Sometimes coming during a Sunday night is a sacrifice we all have to take in order to improve our product. All our sacrifices pay off if we work hard enough.
At times, I’ve seen that some work harder than others. It happens all the time in companies, but, its not a habit to retain. Luckily, I’ve been working with the Marketing group with Barbara, Andrea and Stefan. Though we were not able to decide on a CMO, as a class we decided that both Andrea and Barbara can be CMO’s of Blendz. Having rolls in a company is somewhat important because it is the person in charge of the whole section - instead of having hundreds of people being encharge, however; they are all vital for the team.
In different occasions, I’ve seen lack of corporations and communication between groups. It’s clear that an individual does not want to make a decision because they believe someone else can decide for them. Were missing confidence to speak up and cooperation between groups. There are some people whom have done much more than others, making it unfair for that person whose working excessively hard.
Long-Term Strategy:
I believe for the long run, we should have a number of smoothies sold per selling. By this, we will not have fruit left, yet customers will be aware to get there early in order to get their smoothie. In order to achieve this goal, I’d like to point out a famous quote which says, “Time will tell”. Until now, we have done two trial runs. Both days had their ups and downs. Our first trial run was during ICC, which implies that people had the time to go buy a smoothie, yet also our price was three soles less. On our second trial run, our price was three soles more (s/. 8), yet we had more customers. We also had four times more amount of smoothie on our second trial run (300 in comparison to 75 on our first selling). The demand for smoothies will start to show everytime we sell smoothies.
Short-Term Strategy:
I can not stress enough how inefficient we are being are getting the fruit divided into bags. I deeply enjoy the idea that we are dividing it, however, I feel we are taking to long to get the fruit ready - and missing out on learning through process. I feel we need to find a way to get all the fruit ready in a much smaller time. Squeezing oranges without an orange squeezer is possible the most painful fruit you can ever work with.
As a short-term strategy, I feel we need to buy the perfect material to work with our fruit. For example, buying an specific orange squeezer that is effective, cheap and made for squeezing hundreds of oranges. Additionally, buying a specific melon cutter, banana cutter, and pineapple as well. We have the money to buy all of these materials, and I believe we should spend it in order to make our learning experience much more valuable.
