As great leaders say, "with great power, comes great responsibility."
It's a quote I'm constantly thinking about because of the 'power' I have within my hands. Although power might seem an aggressive noun, but it is most certainly true, I just want to take some time to talk about how I have been responsible, and irresponsible, as well.
Last week Blendz went though its most successful sale, ever. It was during parent teacher conference. Two full days of selling smoothies to the public was actually, quite enjoyable. I was the delivery guy during the first shift - Tuesday at 7:30am and got to interact with teachers at their respective classroom. I got the privilege to speak with them and ask about their thoughts about Blendz, which is actually my job. In many cases, the teachers mentioned their satisfaction towards our smoothies, and suggested if they could re-order for tomorrow. Additionally, many offered me to keep the change providing us with further satisfaction to know that the customer definitely enjoying our product.
I find it funny and amusing how such small details can lead to so much satisfaction in a company. Leaving a tip, for example, is a great way to know that there's someone out there that supports our business and wants to see it grow. Furthermore, spending some time with a customer, and asking about their day, or even what brought them to Blendz, can open up so many doors to friendships, new customers, and support from the public.
This recent example, has been a success regarding responsibilities. Personally, it was a effort from myself to be selling smoothie for almost four hours (until 11:00am) yet the best part of it was that I deeply enjoyed doing it. However, this last week has been a mess for me. Here's why.
About three weeks ago, my laptop broke down and it has been that way since then. Apparently, there is almost nothing a technician can do about it because it is a malfunction from the disk. Not only does that imply that I have to use a laptop from school, but also means I have lost my calendar that has all my deadlines. iProcrastinate is the application that I use to divide my deadlines and my work into different days in order not to binge work the day before.
Recently, this has been creating many difficulties in my school work. My procrastination has grow immensely and my deadlines are passing by without me noticing. Moments of stress has been seen repeatedly this past week and I want to fix that because I probably won't get my laptop back for some time, and my dad will not get me a new one any time soon. I just need to deal with it by my own.
There are a couple of solutions in mind regarding calendar and the use of a computer.
First, I will be using Google Calendar on my phone as constantly as I possibly can. It is quick and works amazing. Better yet, and going on to my second point, at school they've recently bought a Chrome Book, which are laptops that work only with Google, yes also the calendar. I will be able to check out this laptop every day until the semester finishes, score!
The solutions I have in mind are feasible because it is school provided. However, there is something vital I learned this past week, apart from the importance of calendar use. It is the reliability and dependence we have on our machines. Many of us can't even survive a whole day without using internet. Last night, my internet was off for the whole day and I really needed to use it in order to connect with my life, basically. Honestly, I don't enjoy technology as it seems that I do, it is because I enjoy life for what it gave me, not for what we build. Although it might seem hard to understand at first, think about it for a second. Do you prefer having your head down on a computer or would you rather look up?
And as always, thanks for reading.
